Moniruzzaman is a PhD candidate at the ANU Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies majoring in Economics. His doctoral research, “Leveraging Blockchain for Managing Zakat: Exploring the Potential, Challenges and Possible Remediation,” investigates how emerging financial technologies can enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Islamic social finance.
His research interests lie at the intersection of fintech and Islamic social finance, with a particular focus on the digitalization of Zakat management and the transformative role of blockchain in strengthening governance and institutional trust.
Moniruzzaman holds a Master of Arts in Banking and Finance from Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University (AYBU), Turkey, where he specialized in financial management and digital finance. His thesis examined the digitalization of Zakat management in Bangladesh, exploring its potential, challenges, and possible pathways. He also completed a Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage, majoring in Quran and Sunnah, at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). His studies encompassed Tafsir (Quranic exegesis), the explanation of Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), and Usul al-Fiqh (principles of Islamic law), providing him with a strong foundation in Islamic scholarship and its contemporary applications.
Through his academic journey, Moniruzzaman combines expertise in Islamic finance with a critical engagement in modern financial technologies, aspiring to contribute to innovative solutions in the field of Islamic social finance.
